The Power of Your Mind

Firstly, I do not suggest neglecting your mind. It is your best friend when managed correctly and you would not be able to live without it. Secondly, it is up to you to what extent to control your mind.

I will not force you to do anything. Before you learn how to liberate from your mind, i.e., its obsessive thoughts and thought forms, meet Eckhart Tolle, the author of "The Power Of Now".

Eckhart Tolle

Eckhart is a spiritual teacher and author who was born in Germany and educated at the Universities of London and Cambridge. At the age of 29, a profound inner transformation radically changed the course of his life. The next few years were devoted to understanding, integrating, and deepening that transformation, which marked the beginning of an intense inward journey. Later, he began to work in London with individuals and small groups as a counsellor and spiritual teacher. Eckhart shares his time between British Columbia, Canada, and California. Eckhart Tolle is the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller The Power of Now (translated into over 50 languages) and the highly acclaimed follow-up A New Earth, which are widely regarded as two of the most influential spiritual books of our time. - Eckhart Tolle

Eckhart’s profound yet simple teachings have already helped countless people throughout the world to find inner peace and greater fulfilment in their lives.

At the core of the teachings lies the transformation of consciousness, a spiritual awakening that he sees as the next step in human evolution.

How To Liberate From Your Mind

So far I have given you some tips on how to cope with negative thoughts. You simply put them in the bin. Today we will look at your mind from the perspective of now.

The good news is that according to Eckhart Tolle, you CAN liberate yourself from your mind and its intrusive thoughts. And the first step can be taken just now. What can you do?

1. Start Listening

Yes, you are right. Start listening to the voice in your head as soon as possible, for a while. It is necessary to determine the quality of your thoughts. Therefore, pay attention to the returning thought patterns, these old tapes, constantly played in your head, maybe for many years.

Eckhart Toll describes listening to your thoughts as "listening to the voice of the thinker". He promotes an attitude of being a kind of mindfulness. Just listen to your mind's voice and be non-judgemental.

No evaluation, no condemnation, no questioning. If you start judging, the voice will attack you with double force because then you give your power to the mind instead of disempowering negative thoughts.

2. Practise the "I Am" Awareness

You will notice shortly that you are here and the voice is there, gaining a new awareness: the "I am" one while feeling your presence. And it is not your thinking anymore due to being created outside your mind. Therefore, by listening to your thoughts, you are not only aware of them but also yourself as a witness. A new level of awareness emerges then.

While listening to your thoughts, you are feeling your mindful presence, your deeper self, in the background of your thoughts.

Hence, they lose their power over you and calm down quickly as you do not feed your mind with energy, identifying with it. It is the beginning of the end of habitual thinking.

3. Experience the Non-Mind

When your thoughts calm down, you start experiencing breaks in the mental stream, the so-called "non-mind". These breaks will be short at first, lasting some seconds.

However, with practice, you will be able to be thoughtless for minutes. Every time you experience these breaks from thinking and then you will enjoy peace and calmness.

It is also the beginning of the natural unity with Being, usually overshadowed by your mind.

As you practise listening to your mind the periods of non-thinking will intensify. You will also feel a subtle emanation of joy, emerging deeply from inside; the joy of Being.

You will become more vigilant and awakened than during the ordinary identification with your mind. Practising non-thinking will also raise your energy field vibrations.

You will experience a full awareness state. Your presence will be felt so strongly that all thinking, emotions, physical body, and the external world will not count anymore. But it is not egoism.

On the contrary, it is the egoism-free state, taking you beyond your previous thinking about yourself. This non-judgemental presence is the essence that is larger than you are enormous.

A Word of Caution

The conception presented by Toll is very tempting and interesting. However, I do not fully agree with it.

Thoughts have energy and in the case of negative ones, they may infect your aura if you focus too much on them, even only observing them.

You can try to meet your thought patterns and it is important to increase your thinking hygiene.

Nonetheless, the non-mind technique is for advanced users, who can manage their thoughts well and are immune to the negative energy of some thoughts and thought forms.

Therefore, be careful using the non-mind technique if negativity attacks you too easily.

Also, we are busy elsewhere and not always able to observe our thoughts, not to mention being non-judgemental.

Moreover, other people and beings will distract the mindfulness process. But to conclude, the non-thinking technique can be used and is very efficient in spiritual development.
