To use essential oils for balancing chakras, you need some basic knowledge about these substances.

What Are Essential Oils?

In the shortest, they are compounds extracted from plants. The oils capture the plant's scent and flavour also called its "essence." Unique aromatic compounds give each essential oil its characteristic essence.

Essential oils are obtained through distillation (via steam and/or water) or mechanical methods, such as cold pressing.

Once the aromatic chemicals have been extracted, they are combined with carrier oil to create a product that is ready for use. Some people think that the products obtained through chemical processes are not true essential oils.

Before You Use Essential Oils…

Essential oils are mostly used in the practice of aromatherapy. You can either inhale, dilute or rub on your skin, but never swallow them. When applied to your skin, you absorb some plant chemicals.

1. Improve Absorption

Some methods can improve absorption, such as applying heat to different areas of the body. Inhaling the aromas from this kind of oil can stimulate your limbic system which is heavily involved in forming memories.

It can partly explain why familiar smells can trigger memories or emotions. The limbic system also plays a role in controlling some unconscious physiological functions, e.g. breathing, heart rate and blood pressure. Some people claim that essential oils can exert a physical effect on your body in this way. However, scientists have not confirmed it yet.

2. Choose the Right Essential Oils

Before you choose the oil appropriate to a given chakra, read some words to the wise. You need to be cautious while working with essential oils. Using them in the wrong way may cause more damage than help.

3. Check Purity

Find an oil that contains only aromatic plant compounds, without additives or synthetic oils. For example, pure oils usually list the plant's botanical name (such as Lavandula officinalis), rather than terms like "essential oil of lavender."

4. Check Quality and Reputation

True essential oils are the ones that have been changed the least by the extraction process. Choose a chemical-free product, extracted through distillation or mechanical cold pressing.

5. Be Careful During the Process

High-quality oils only use pure plant compounds extracted by distillation or cold pressing. Avoid oils that have been diluted with synthetic fragrances, chemicals or oils.

6. Watch Your Thoughts During Balancing Your Chakras

This is probably one of the most important pieces of advice I can give you. Like with using crystals, a procedure without good intentions in mind will not be successful.

While working with essential oils, think deeply about the cleansing and healing effect they have on all subtle bodies, not only chakras.

If you combine meditation with applying essential oils and your intentions are pure, your chakras will work in an optimal way.

Warning about Side Effects

Essential oils are very useful, not only for balancing your chakras. However, they also have side effects. It happens because plants contain many bioactive compounds. Some of them can be harmful to your health.

However, combined in a proper way, essential oils are beneficial to your health and chakras.

Here are some most common side effects:

  • Rashes,

  • Asthma attacks,

  • Headaches,

  • Allergic reactions.

The oils that have most commonly been associated with adverse reactions are lavender, peppermint, tea tree and ylang-ylang.

Moreover, oils that are high in phenols, such as cinnamon, can cause skin irritation and should not be used on the skin without first being combined with a base oil. These products are not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

How to Balance Chakras by Essential Oils

Each of the seven chakras responds well to a different kind of oil and needs a bit different kind of stimulation. use the information below for the best effects

1. Root Chakra

St. John's Wort, Angelica, Patchouli, Nutmeg Frankincense, and Vetiver are the best. The root chakra connects you with Mother Earth and feet are the transmitters of energy from your body to earth.

Hence, foot massage is a great way to balance the root chakra which regulates your sense of ground and stability. Rub the oil, after application, anticlockwise for three minutes and then change your moves to the clockwise ones.

During the process, you can chant statements starting with I AM... For example:

  • I am an awesome being (because...)

  • I am the beloved child of God.

  • I am a wonder (because...)

It also influences your gut instincts. Again, make anticlockwise movements first and then change the direction, three minutes each one, chanting:

  • I do great things in my life.

  • I have control over my life.

  • I think some uplifting thoughts.

Geranium, Lavandin (clarifies the chakra), Neroli or Vanilla (calming effect on the chakra) Myrrh, Gotu Kola and Sandalwood. Look to frankincense to maintain a well-functioning crown chakra.

A room diffusion applied to the airspace around you is the best way to balance the transcendent crown chakra which occupies the space above the crown of your head. Massaging the top of your head is also advisable.

Put the fingertips on both hands in a ring around the top of the client’s head. But avoid touching the crown of the head press lightly to release tensions. Chant the following affirmations:

  • I understand the Divine Plan for myself and other beings.

  • I understand others being right to choose a different path than I am following (i.e., the darkness)
