How To Work With Colours to Heal – Holistic Approach

Colours have a big influence on our lives. You have already learnt about their healing properties. But how to apply colour therapy? Learn it today.

Meadows are full of colours

Colour Therapy and Colour Psychology

You need to distinguish these two terms because they do not mean the same. Let’s start with the definitions:

Colour therapy is a technique that restores imbalance through by applying coloured light to the body. In ancient times, it was a popular method of cure diseases. Some 2,500 years ago, Pythagoras applied colour light therapeutically and 'colour halls' were used for healing in ancient Egypt, China and India.

On the other hand, colour psychology is the study of how different colours can influence human behaviour and perception.

Contemporary science discredits the value of colour therapy, stating that it is based upon the unproven assumption that specific colours can impact people's "energy" and impact health outcomes.

However, how is it that ancient technologies were effective at those times? We need to be open to new ways of healing and creating happiness, otherwise, there will be no growth and evolution. Learn more about the mind - the article continues below:

The Secrets of Colour Therapy

According to practitioners of chromotherapy, the cause of any disease is often traced to the lack of a specific colour in the human system. Colour therapy is a technique that restores imbalance by applying coloured light to the body. In ancient times, it was a popular method of cure diseases.

Some 2,500 years ago, Pythagoras applied colour light therapeutically and ‘colour halls’ were used for healing in ancient Egypt, China and India.

Moreover, look at the Chinese Five Elements theory. Each element is associated with a given group of colours, e.g., Fire with red, orange, and pink. Colours are used in Chinese medicine, which, though still treated as a less valuable form of treatment in the Western world, are effective in the East.

Very often, when academic medicine disappoints and gives no chance of curing the disease, people turn to Eastern kinds of therapy.

Let’s look at colour therapy from another point of view. For example, sunlight plays a vital role in the recovery from chronic diseases. The Sun's rays contain seven different colours i.e., rainbow colours – violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red.

These rainbow colours are natural colours which are highly beneficial to the maintenance of health and for healing diseases.

Moreover, it is recommended to look at green objects, preferably trees, after a long time spend in front of the computer. And it works.

How To Use Colours For Healing?

Before you start, prepare your toolkit. Here are some important steps to take:

  • Identify the problem. What kind of illness do you suffer from? What bothers your mind?

  • Pick up the colour that you will work with. Usually, we will choose one to three colours but you can activate more than one area of your life, according to the chakra system. In this case, you use all seven rainbow colours. But this technique is for advanced healing only.

  • Choose one of the tools described below. You can work with a couple of them in one go but the more tools you use the more complex the healing process will become.

  • Prepare mentally. Create a big “why”, the reason for which you want o to be healthy. This might unfold more issues to work on, in order to have the willpower for making an effort. If you are not ready or sceptical, do not read further because your thoughts will sabotage your efforts.

Now let me list these tools first:

2. Visualisation

3. Wearing clothes and jewellery

4. House decoration

5. Lighting candles

6. Gardening – using brown, green

7. Drinking water or juices from the glass painted in a particular colour

8. Growing plants, tailored to your case

9. Make-up (women)

10. Diet

1. Affirmations

As you know, practising affirmations can help create a healthy and abundant life. Write them down, preferably a couple of times, using the 3-6-9 method for example (i.e., 3 times in the morning, 6 times in the afternoon and 9 times in the evening). For example:

The Purple Divine Light is healing my epilepsy. I let epilepsy go. I am epilepsy-free.

2. Visualisation

Now pick up the colour, e.g., purple, and visualise the colour and the organ/body system affected by an illness/disease. Imagine the selected colour surrounding the ill organ and filling it with healing energy. Use all your senses to experience the healing process. For example, you are in the Garden of Paradise, being able to smell and touch a purple flower, hear the singing of a purple bird, and taste a purple plum.

3. Clothes and Jewellery

This method is simple. Knowing the illness/disease that you want to cure and the appropriate colour, buy a bracelet, or a necklace with the pendant having this colour. The same applies to earrings.

You can also start wearing clothes. Sometimes it might be challenging as e.g., white is not very common in the winter and not all parts of the apparel are available in each colour, e.g., pink or purple winter shoes. Also, some dress codes oblige you to wear a particular colour, e.g., black for a funeral. Then you might stop taking part in these events.

Flowers of different colours can heal

4. House Decoration

This technique is known from Chinese medicine and the theory of the Five Elements. It is a very complex topic though because you do not only work on your health here.

For example, the liver and gallbladder belong to the Wood element and this one is associated with brown and green. So, if you struggle with the organs, use more green/brown colours in your house, e.g., having more plants.

5. Lighting candles

It is commonly known in magic that candles of various colours are used in various rituals. For example, for wealth green candles are used w, while for love lack – pink and red. We won’t be dealing with magic much here, but you can use just a white candle/tealight and put it on a candleholder/oil diffuser/ glass coloured according to your needs. Light the candles/tealights with the intention of healing. Then you can add practising affirmations.

6. Gardening – Using Brown, Green and the Colours of Flowers

Gardening is not only beneficial for health because of doing exercises. You also connect with the energy of Mother Earth, plus surround yourself with leafy beings, having the healing green. Working in the garden also contributes to fruitful meditation and stress relief.

Moreover, using plants with flowers of a given colour can also help. Furthermore, you can create your garden according to the chakra system, growing plants which have flowers of all rainbow colours.

7. Drinking Water or Juices from the Glass Painted in a Particular Colour

It works similarly to the candle colour therapy, mentioned above. Just drink water from the glasses coloured according to your need. Moreover, while drinking, do it with the intention of healing. Think that each glass of water/green tea/sugar-free fruit juice brings you closer to health. You can also paint an affirmation on your cup, stating that you are (an illness/disease)-free.

8. Growing Plants, Tailored to Your Case

I have mentioned the plants having flowers in different colours and that you can choose them according to your needs. Moreover, plants as such have healing properties, too. Let me mention only a couple of them: Aloe Vera, Lavender, Gotu kola, Marigold, dandelion, and Tulsi. You can grow them indoors and outdoors.

9. Make-up (women)

It is also known that women use make-up according to one of the four seasons. Although it is not recommended to be too avant-garde in the choice of colours, you can deliberately use, e.g., eye shades and/or lipsticks.

Of course, your garment and accessories (which, by the way, can also be chosen according to the colour you need), can be also used this way. So for example, pearl, green, purple or blue eye shades can be helpful. You can also use glitter if silver and gold are needed in your case.

10. Diet

Try to eat more food representing your selected colour. For example, oranges, which treat rheumatism, can be found in a carrot, oranges, apricot, mango, peach and papaya.

Blue, calming down depression is present in plums, blue beans, blue grapes, etc..

Violet can be found in Eggplant, berries, black carrots and purple grapes.

Green, in turn, is very common, as it is in most green vegetables and fruits such as gourds, spinach, plantain, lettuce, pea, green mango, gooseberry, pears, beans, etc.

And finally, limes and lemons, sweet limes, grapes, pumpkins, melons, bananas, mango and guava are yellow.

In a Nutshell

Today I have described ten effective ways of working with colours for health benefits. They include wearing clothes and jewellery, make-up, diet, house decoration and lighting candles, gardening, growing healing plants, drinking water from coloured mugs, visualisation and affirmations. With lots of love and light,

Vicky
