Check How You Can Let Go of Past Relationships

Many friends of mine have asked me recently "How to let go of past relationships?" I admit that the solution is not simple and easy to implement but have decided to present you with some tools today.

Harmonious relationships are very important in holistic life. Any conflicts and disturbances have an impact on your body, mind, and soul at the same time. And the past, not closed and often ruminated on, is the worst challenge to peace and harmony in life.

How To Let Go of Past Relationships

Below you will learn ten ways in which you can close the past of your relationships that do not serve you anymore. In this instance, you can choose one or more of the presented tips and the result will be satisfactory.

1. Create the Present Space

Leave all the energy of the past relationship. It simply means dumping anything that contains this energy and in particular:

  • love letters,

  • cards (e.g., Valentine, and Christmas ones),

  • photos of your ex,

  • flowers and other objects,

  • jewellery,

  • sex toys,

  • clothes, especially lingerie you were wearing (women)

  • presents from your ex

  • sheets and duvet cover (if they slept with you in your house)

  • containers with food if still possessed.

Here are some examples of affirmations:

  • I ... am letting my anger (or other emotion) go,

  • I ... am dissolving .... (Anger, pain, bitterness, jealousy, bitterness, grudge etc.),

  • I ... am getting rid of ...

You can also write everything you want to express in a letter instead of using affirmations. Clarifying your feelings will help you come to terms with reality as it is now, even if you choose not to send this letter.

You can even write more than one, for example first letting go of all your negative energy and forgiving your ex in the next one.

2. Hang a Statement

It is proved that hanging something in a visible place and often looking at it can change your thinking or attitude. Hence, hang a statement in your bathroom, in front of your computer, and in the kitchen near the dining table. Here is an example:

“Loving myself means letting go.”

3. Visualise the End of Past Relationships

Visualisation is a powerful technique. You can attract what you want in this way, but also wipe out the past. Imagine an empowered single you, of the times before meeting your last love.

Of course, supposing that you were happy indeed because sometimes a relationship becomes a panacea for the pain of loneliness. That person you need to visualise was awesome, and now you have the chance to be him or her again.

If you want to wipe out the past, imagine a moment from the time you were together and then a rubber which is erasing that picture.

Instead of the rubber, you can visualise a flame burning the past, the wind blowing away like a tornado, or even the water, flooding the memory.

4. Use Your Voice to Cut off Your Past Relationships

Use the silly voice technique. Metamorphose into a dwarf, a Smurf, a witch or Donald Duck. Use their voice to imitate your ex or to cry out all the negativity cumulating inside you.

Russ Harris, the author of The Happiness Trap, claims that swapping the voice in your head with a cartoon voice will help take back power from the troubling thought. Try this technique, you have nothing to lose.

5. Replace Emotions with Facts

Sometimes it may be hard to overcome negative emotions, especially shortly after breaking up. However, you need to learn how to substitute obsessive, negative thoughts with some more uplifting and calming ones.

Instead of "I have never been loved" think "There are people who always love and care, e.g. (put their name and choose more than one person)".

6. Remember Both, Good and Bad from Past Relationships

Remember both the good and the bad because these are your life experiences. You will not change the past but always can learn a lesson. I will write more about it later. Bear in mind that what is bad now may turn out to be beneficial in the future.

7. Reward Yourself

Reward yourself for small acts of acceptance. The past is gone, he or she is gone, but it is you know who deserves special treatment. Buy new cloth, go out, go on holiday - on your own, free from the past. And reward yourself for each won challenge of battling negativity from the past, e.g., the obsessive thoughts.

8. Un-romanticise Love

Stop treating your ex as a lost soulmate. Instead, visualise all the worst traits and habits this person had and how repulsive they are to you.

In this way, you quickly stop being obsessed with your past relationship. Start thinking that you can find a love that is amazing or better again so that it will be easier to move on.

9. Find the Lesson to Learn from Your Past Relationships

Write down all the lessons that you have learnt because of being in this relationship. Even if it was toxic, the next time you can always become wiser and choose someone who is sane, positive, loving, and caring.

10. Meditate

Meditation is an efficient way of detaching from the past. just cleanse your aura and mind by visualising the Divine Light, going through all your memories, and erasing them.
